Cascade Campers was born of a lifelong passion for the campervan lifestyle and a desire to share it with the masses.

Zach’s passion for campervans began with a post-high school graduation road trip in a 1964 Volkswagen Bus. There were plenty of breakdowns along the way. Over the years, Zach learned to relish the spontaneous mechanical learning opportunities inherent to VW bus travel. This aspect of the campervan lifestyle, however, isn’t universally appealing. But Zach felt the experience of a campervan adventure is something that should be available to everyone.

After years of searching for a modern, reliable, economical alternative to the classic German campers he loves so dearly, Zach decided to design his own. He found his platform serendipitously when he rented a compact, front-wheel drive campervan in Iceland. The little van was cheap, robust, and just the right size. Zach’s design was developed the old-fashioned way: trial and error. He spent many moons building, testing, tearing down, and rebuilding his camper kit until he was certain he’d found the right balance of quality, versatility, and practicality.

Life after the Promaster City vans?

As of the summer of 2023 we are still building Promaster City based campers like we always have and will continue until folks stop bringing them to us to convert. New Promaster City vans are nearly gone but there are tons of good used ones out there that are great candidates for a Cascade Camper conversion. We will keep building our Kitchen Pods as well.

The question we get all the time...  We are not going to start building campervans on a different van model. I am sure there is a good market for a mid-sized van built with our methods and philosophy but we just don't want to.

Don't worry! We aren't going anywhere and will continue to support the amazing Cascade Camper community for many years to come. We will be here to fix issues, answer questions as well as upgrades for all the Cascade Camper out there.

What else are we doing?

1. We are doing an electric conversion on a 72 VW bus with the intention of doing electric conversions on more VW buses and other classic cars. This is assuming we enjoy the process of doing the first one :-).

2. We are looking at building a small number of fully off-grid capable tiny homes out of box trucks. Zach has been having a lot of fun with solar and lithium batteries since they have come down in price. The goal is a tiny home that has enough power to run heating and cooling as well as everything else other than the darkest days of the year.

3. Van electrical systems. We have been doing the electrical systems for our buddy Preston with Preston Vans and taking on some other van electrical system builds and upgrades.

4. We have one more project going that isn't related to campers or vehicles at all. It is something to help make a good party a great party. Is that a good enough teaser ;-) More details to come!
