The Details!
A fully equipped Medium Van (aka the Van-partment) starts at $19,950. Yep, you read that right.
There are a few thoughtful upgrades available—check out our Options Page for those—but everything listed below comes standard. No upsells required to get a beautifully built, road-ready camper.
Electrical System
We’ve packed the Medium Van with serious power—enough to keep you running off-grid in comfort, without needing hookups or a generator. Here’s what comes standard:
Solar
Two 450-watt rigid panels mounted on our custom low-profile roof rack give you a total of 900 watts of solar. That’s a ton of clean, renewable energy—perfectly positioned to keep your system topped off.Battery
A single 24V 200Ah lithium battery, providing 5kWh of usable energy. For reference, that’s equivalent to 400Ah at 12V—plenty of power for full-time van life.Inverter/Charger
A 3,000-watt low-frequency inverter/charger from SunGoldPower, capable of surging up to 9,000 watts for 20 seconds. Yes, you could absolutely run a table saw off it if you really wanted to.System Components
Victron DC-DC Charger
Victron Solar Charge Controller
Victron Shunt-based Battery Monitor
24V to 12V Converter for running standard 12V camper accessories
This is a real-deal, high-performance system that’s been designed to deliver serious capability while staying super efficient and user-friendly.
Insulation
We use Thinsulate in the walls and ceiling for excellent thermal and sound insulation, and there’s a full 1 inch of rigid foam insulation under the floor to help keep things warm in the winter and cool in the summer.
You’ll also get an insulated curtain behind the front seats to separate the cab from the living space, plus insulated window curtains if your van already has windows—or if you choose to have us install them for you.
Warm, quiet, and cozy—just how it should be.
Water System
We keep it simple, durable, and easy to maintain—with components that are all food-grade and drinking water safe, so yes, you can absolutely drink the water straight from the sink.
Fresh Water: Two 5-gallon jugs
Grey Water: One 5-gallon jug
Since the tanks are removable, keeping them clean and fresh-tasting is super easy—just pop them out, rinse, and go. No complex plumbing, no hassle.
For the pump, we upgraded from the submersible style used in our Little Vans to a self-siphoning, pressure-activated pump. It gives better flow, is easier to service, and most importantly—it doesn’t require any modifications to the tanks themselves.
Why we love these tanks:
Incredibly durable
Wide-mouth opening (you can actually fit your arm in to clean them properly)
Widely available from multiple manufacturers
Compatible with standard water refill machines (like the ones used for office water cooler jugs)
It’s a clean, low-fuss system that just works—and works well.
The Couch / Bed
Our couch is extra deep at XXX inches, making it a super comfortable spot for a single person to sleep without having to fold it out. That means no moving cushions, no reconfiguring your setup at the end of the day—and you still have full access to your storage.
When two people are staying in the van, the couch quickly and easily slides out using our custom-designed in-house slide system, transforming into a Full XL bed (54" x 80"). It’s roomy, supportive, and sets up in seconds.
We also make our cushions in-house, using a thoughtful combination of comfort and support:
3 inches of medium-soft foam on top
2 inches of firm foam on the bottom
Compressed to about 4.5" total thickness for the perfect balance
Using two different foam densities makes a big difference in overall comfort—especially in a space where you can’t easily fit a full-size mattress.
Fridge
We’ve chosen the Dometic CRX PRO 65 fridge for the Medium Van—because it fits the space perfectly and delivers great performance.
It features a small freezer compartment that can be quickly converted into extra fridge space if that’s more your style. Or, if you need to keep things icy, you can set the entire unit to freezer mode and have plenty of cold storage for frozen meals, ice cream, or road trip popsicles.
It’s efficient, flexible, and just works—like everything else in the build.
Toilet
Let’s talk toilets—because yes, it’s important, and no, I have zero issues talking about it.
We designed the Medium Van around the OGO Origin composting toilet—because honestly, we love it. It’s one of the things that makes this van actually livable, especially for full-timers. The game-changer? It has a super efficient electric stirring system.
There are cheaper composting toilets out there, but if they don’t stir, they’re just not the same. Composting works by drying out and breaking down your #2s, and that works a lot better when it's well mixed with the composting agent. We use coco coir (the fibrous husk from coconuts), and it’s awesome.
Here’s how it works:
Do your business (yep, paper too—single ply works best)
Press the stir button
The toilet mixes everything for ~40 seconds
Done!
It sounds simple, and it is—but it’s also kind of magic. There’s no smell, nothing sticks, and you can go for weeks or longer without needing to empty it (especially if you do your business elsewhere now and then). When it’s time to dump it, you just pour it into a plastic bag and toss it. You’d think this would be stinky—but it isn’t. Really. No deep cleaning required—the good microbes in there actually help keep things balanced and low-maintenance.
There’s also constant airflow pulling into the toilet and venting out the side of the van, helping dry everything out and keeping your living space fresh.
As for #1? That goes into a separate jug that’s super easy to remove and empty. We recommend tossing your pee paper in the trash—too much paper in the solids bin can mess with the composting process.
We’ve also sized the toilet drawer to fit a range of alternatives, so if you’d prefer a cassette toilet (a.k.a. the “stinky milkshake” style), you’re covered.
We’ve even got some ideas brewing on how to make the whole toilet experience even easier—so stay tuned!
